Tips For Talking to Your Mechanic

If you need to bring your car in for a service or you believe that there is an issue with the vehicle that needs to be remedied, it helps to be able to talk to your mechanic properly in order to get to the root of the problem as quickly as possible, so that it can be fixed and you can get back out on the road.

Unfortunately, the team at SN Autohaus have found that many people are a little wary of speaking to mechanics for whatever reason, so we have created a list of things that we need to know in order to help you get your car back out on the road.

When You Noticed An Issue

One of the first questions that we are likely to ask you is when you noticed the issue that you have brought your car in to get checked for. Ideally, you should be able to give us an exact date and perhaps some examples of the issue reoccurring in the days since that first time if relevant. This will allow us to get a better idea of what the issue might be and, just as importantly, how it may have affected other aspects of the vehicle.

Tell Us Every Detail

Once we have gone over the basics of the problem, we are going to want to know every detail. Your five senses may be the key to us diagnosing the issue even quicker so if you can tell us what you saw, smelt or heard when your care developed an issue, we may be able to get to the bottom of it a lot quicker. It may be surprising to see how quickly a mechanic can figure out an issue just because you tell them you heard a particular noise and then a certain smell arose.

Ask Us Questions

We know that in our excitement to help you get your vehicle fixed we are occasionally going to start talking about things that you are unfamiliar with. It happens to the best mechanics, especially when they are looking forward to getting started on the job. If that starts happening, don’t be afraid to stop us and ask questions. We want to make sure that you have all of the information that you need so that you can make the decisions that are right for you and your car, so ask us to clarify anything we say that you don’t understand.

Show Us Receipts

If you have had any work carried out on the vehicle before bringing it to us, it really helps if you can provide receipts that detail the work that was carried out. This allows us to understand what has been done right away and saves time that may otherwise have been spent on you telling us about the work.

Just Relax

At the end of the day, we are here to help you so you don’t need to feel nervous about not knowing much about cars when you are speaking to us. After all, knowing about cars is what we are here for!
